Betting on the New York Giants

As the oldest NFL team in the Northeast United States, the New York Giants play their home football in MetLife Stadium and enjoy a strong following and lots of attention through New York sports betting lines. Actually located in East Rutherford, New Jersey, the G-Men are the last of 5 teams which joined the NFL back in 1925. Entering the 2014 season, they ranked 3rd in the NFL with 8 titles. The Giants won 4 NFL titles before the advent of the Super Bowl, and 4 after. New York has also appeared in more championship games than any other (19). Coached by Tom Coughlin, the Giants play their football in the NFC East Division along with longtime rivals Philadelphia, Dallas and Washington. Betting on the New York Giants often means placing wagers against the Philadelphia Eagles in the oldest of the NFC East rivalries, dating back to 1933. The Eagles - Big Blue contest is played a minimum of twice a year. This section of our New York pro football betting guide focuses on the individual teams, including the NY Jets and the Buffalo Bills. We have also done a similar guide for betting on NY pro basketball teams.

New York Giants 2014 Season

The 2014 season marks the 90th of the New York Giants. After a 7 - 9 record in 2013 in which the Giants once again missed the playoffs, Big Blue is looking for a return to the postseason. The last time the Giants made the NFL playoffs they won Super Bowl XLVI in 2012. Halfway through the regular season the Giants have compiled a less than impressive 3 - 5 record overall, going 1 - 2 in the NFC East Division. The defense and offense are both to blame for a -31 point scoring differential, and aside from 3 wins against Houston, Washington and Atlanta, 3 teams which will probably not make the playoffs, New York has looked less than average at best. A new offensive coordinator has meant that Eli Manning is struggling, completing 62% of his passes for less than 7 yards per attempt. Tight end Larry Donnell has been a bright spot, along with running back Rashad Jennings. Out of 32 teams, the Giants give up the 10th most rushing yards and 4th most passing yards per game. A Super Bowl is out of the question in 2015, and the playoffs look like a distant impossibility as well.

2014 New York Giants Betting Trends and Statistics

In 2014 the Giants are 3 - 5 against the spread, losing every ATS matchups against a winning team. At home New York is 2 - 2 straight up, posting a 1 - 3 record on the road. The total has gone over 5 times, with the under hitting 3 times so far this year (8 games).

Tom Coughlin and Eli Manning Return the Giants to Championship Form

Just 3 years following their last Super Bowl appearance, coach Tom Coughlin left the Jacksonville Jaguars and became the Giants head coach. That same year New York traded on draft day for the University of Mississippi signal caller Eli Manning. The team went 25 - 23 from 2004 through 2006, and fans were questioning the Coughlin hiring decision. The very next year the Giants defeated the Buccaneers, Cowboys and Packers in the NFC playoffs, and went to the Super Bowl. The New England Patriots were 18 - 0 entering the 2008 Super Bowl and were heavy favorites. But the Giants won by the narrow margin of 17 - 14 for their 3rd Super Bowl title and 7th NFL Championship overall. Their 8th National Football League title came in the 2012 Super Bowl, once again against New England, by the score of 21 - 17.
